This year’s Summer departures in Barcelona have left vacant some symbolic jersey numbers in the Barcelona dressing room.
Ivan Rakitic leaves the Number 4, Arthur Melo the number 8 and possibly Luis Suarez the number 9. The number 6, No.7 and No. 14 shirts are still vacant also.
The Number 4 was popularly worn by Roanld Koeman, Pep Guardiola and Rafael Marquez while the Number 6 was popularly worn by Xavi, No.7 was worn by Luis Figo, David Villa and Pedro Rodriguez.
The No.8 was worn by Andreas Iniesta and Hristo Stoichov, the No. 9 of Samuel Eto’O and Ronaldo Nazario. The No.14 was popularly worn by Thierry Henry, Mascherano, Johan Cruyff. During Johan Cruyff time, he was never allowed to wear the No.14 actually because only numbers 1-11 were allowed then. But his name is always linked to that No.14.
New signings arriving Barcelona this summer, Pjanic, Pedri, Francisco Trincao will all be needing a new number. But their numbers hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Pjanic who wore the Number 5 at Juventus can’t have that No in Barcelona or the Number 10 which he wears at his national side because those numbers are occupied. He has to choose numbers such as; 4, 8 and 6.
Pedri wore the number 28 at Las Palmas and could chose the number 8 at Barcelona because his football idol is Andreas Iniesta. Philippe Coutinho who returns on loan from Bayern Munich might take his No.7 or chose the No.14 which he wore in his first season with Barcelona.
Luis Suarez who is close in leaving Barcelona will see the Number 9 vacant. Incoming new signing like Lauturo or Depay might pick the number should they sign for Barcelona.
Ansu Fati could also be looking for a change of number with the No.14 his likely new number.
